1. The S-shaped loveseat. Many people assume that this is the only true loveseat style. The back of the chair is shaped as an S instead of straight as with most seats. This allows two people to be sitting face to face while still side by side. The backside curves around the back of each of the individuals on the seat and then weaves between them. This would mean the seating position allows for intimate conversations, while keeping the persons suitably separated.
2. The settee loveseat. This is entirely different to the s-shaped loveseat and is in fact simply a settee for just two people. Producers who want to minimise costs without reducing the size of their series are building three seater sofas and settees, then making a smaller two seater version and naming this the loveseat. With many people now having less living room they are unable to accommodate a sofa and two chairs, so the sofa & loveseat combination is being marketed as a practical alternative. Also the loveseat option is accepted for those living with small rooms in cities.
3. The sleeper loveseat. This is basically just the same as the settee loveseat, but can be removed to create extra sleeping space for visitors. This is a great and very convenient piece of furniture for anybody who is living in an apartment and likes their space to be uncluttered yet still practical.
So purchasing sofas & loveseats is not as complicated as it at first may seem, it is more related to being prepared for the wide range of different styles which are defined as loveseats.
